First Six Months of the Second Trump Administration: The Parade of Failures Continues

A parade of failures and missteps from the Trump Administration: They fire people they should keep, they announce successes that are mirages, and they belittle experts with proven successes.

In 2020, Trump slammed NAFTA and replaced it with the highly-similar USMCA, calling it the "best agreement we've ever made". In 2025, he said the USMCA was horrible.

In July 2024, Musk endorsed Trump, and committed a couple hundred million dollars of his own fortune. By March 2025, Musk was slashing-and-burning his way through the federal government with Trump's full support. By July 2025 Musk was trashing Trump's budget proposal and accusing Trump of benefitting from Epstein's sex-trafficking and Trump was threatening to deport Musk

During his Presidential campaign, and in the first few months of his Presidency, Trump promised to abolish FEMA, neglecting that the agency mostly provides funding and assistance to local agencies. He walked that back after flooding in TX in July 2025.

During his Presidential campaign, Trump said he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office. Before that, he had been echoing Putin's talking points for years, and criticizing Obama & Biden for spending too much money on the war. After six months in office, he was calling Putin a liar and returning to the Biden- and Obama-backed programs of providing military aid to Ukraine, and sanctions on Russia.

In February, the Trump Administration struggled to rehire members of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is had fired without cause, and without understanding what they do.

In March, the Trump Administration struggled to rehire federal workers it illegally fired.

The "Big Beautiful Bill" drastically cuts financial assistance for the working poor - many of whom live in states which backed Trump. Those states will bear the brunt of the pain resulting from the bill passing, since the people who most need the assistance are the rural poor - and those are also the ones who will be least capable of meeting the increased bureaucratic requirements.

In May, Trump said the Houthis had agreed to stop attacking commercial shipping. They publicly disagreed. In July they sunk another ship.

Trump also claimed credit for achieving peace between Israel & Iran - shortly before the "ceasefire" was violated by both. Later, he claimed complete success for ending Iran's nuclear weapons campaign despite evidence that Iran hadn't been pursuing nuclear weapons, and that Iran's nuclear-fuel facilities would be able to recover shortly after the strike, and may have increased Iran's willingness to pursue a nuclear weapon. Years earlier, Trump withdrew from a nuclear deal that Iran had complied with, and which was slowing & monitoring that country's progress toward being able to build a nuclear weapon.

Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" slashes fund for weather forecasting, as hurricane season is starting.

Rural US farmers benefitted from USAID - which Trump destroyed, because it bought up surplus US crops and used them to improve the US's reputation around the world.

Despite all the international tensions driven by Trump's trade wars, funding cuts, unfocused & contradictory foreign policies, he's firing large numbers of people at the US State Department - including high-performing experts with decades of experience. Apparently some of the firings were accidental.

Of course, during his first term, there were plenty of similar failures and self-inflicted wounds. Corruption and double-standards have been rampant under both Trump Administrations - and there are have been way too many controversies to list them all here.

Trump's promises and announcements aren't worth the air he expends while speaking them. He will flip on political and financial allies with no warning and little cause. The best action for anyone who has backed Trump or the GOP is to reverse course sooner rather than later. After Trump's gone, the dishonor & embarrassment of supporting him will remain.
