A blog on US politics, Math, and Physics… with occasional bits of gaming

The Protests Will Continue

The protests will continue.

I'm up too late.

I just called both my Senators and my representative in the US House to protest ICE.

I read today about ICE baiting a child's parents out by using the child as a hostage.

The protests will continue.

I read today about ICE training new recruits (illegally and against policy) that they can violate the 4th Amendment to the Constitution.

The protests will continue.

I read today about the House narrowly passing funding for DHS, ICE and the government - over Democratic objections to funding this incorporation of criminals into government processes.

The protests will continue.

I take breaks from the news, from the horrors visited upon US citizens and legal residents by our own governments - as I am sure you do too, as we all must on occasion.

The protests will continue.

The Trump Administration has shown again and again that it will not be bound by any standard of decency, treaty, law, or morality.

The protests will continue.

ICE and DHS and the others are enforcing illegitimate, illusory laws against US citizens and peaceful residents.

The protests will continue.

Trump himself is losing mental and physical strength. Whatever moral and rhetorical suasion he once had is slipping away.

The protests will continue.

A typical play by fascists is to get people to submit to the police state by offering them a stronger economy in exchange for surrendering their own freedoms - but this Administration's obsession with tariffs, sycophants, brutality, and the exclusion of experts means our economy is weakening.

The protests will continue.

A typical play by fascists is to turn the majority against minorities of multiple stripes by othering them, by describing them as scapegoats, by making them seem strange and inhuman - but the US has become culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse, blunting these neo-nazis' best tool.

The protests will continue.

Military experts advise a troop density of around 20 soldiers per thousand residents as a minimum to pacify hostile occupied territory. The US has around 721,000 law enforcement officers and about 2.07 million soldiers. Together, that's 2.8 million folks _maximum_ trying to suppress protests. The US has 343 million citizens, plus immigrants in various statuses. That means there are at maximum half as many military & law enforcement personnel as necessary to bend the populace to the government's will. Many of those soldiers and police see DHS & ICE's actions as embarrassing and criminal.

The protests will continue.

Everyone who has endorsed this behavior, everyone who has enabled it, everyone who continues to defend it - knows that Trump, Miller, Vought, Noem, Vance, Johnson, and their allies have infuriated vast swaths of US citizens.

The protests will continue.

Donald Trump himself is underwater by 14.5%, near his historical minimum (set a few months ago) of 14.7%. His strongest policy is immigration, for which he is underwater by only 11.1% - the lowest it has ever been.

The protests will continue.

As Steve Bannon said to CPAC this past November, many of the people in this Administration are going to jail if they lose political power. They know it, and they will fight tooth and nail to prevent that.

The protests will continue.

The Epstein files have yet to be released, and every day that passes reinforces that the Administration would rather violate that law than test peoples' suspicions about their contents.

The protests will continue.

On the global stage, the US is losing economic, military, political, scientific and moral authority through the actions of the madmen running the show. Mike Carney of Canada, the EU, NATO, and the UN are taking steps to limit the damage done in our names.

The protests will continue.

Many Judges, Senators, Governors, and elected officials are pushing back against this Administration, its stacked Supreme Court, and its GOP Congressional allies where they can, but they are divided in their goals & tools, and limited in number.

The protests will continue.

Elon Musk is planning to use his wealth to sway the 2026 elections in favor of billionaires again. Jeff Bezos and Vladimir Putin will likely join him. But wealth inequality is extraordinarily high and extraordinarily unpopular.

The protests will continue.

There is only one way for the protests to end, and the criminals running the country know they can only postpone the day of reckoning and try to embezzle as much as they can to protect themselves in the meantime: The actions of ICE, the blatant illegality and unconstitutional actions of this Administration, the suppression of evidence, the violence against US citizens & foreigners must stop. It _will_ stop. It's just a matter of when.

The protests will continue.

We're all tired. We're all horrified. We work in shifts. We protect what we can. This is our country, our laws, our destiny, and we will dig our way out of this mess.

Until then, the protests will continue.

Pro-Trump Politicians Should Reverse Course to Maintain Their Principles.
